Commission Procedures
Several steps are involved for a portrait to be painted.
First, I like to discuss with the client his/her needs and expectations. We review the medium, the size of the portrait, and the subject matter. Second, an appointment is scheduled for a photographic sitting of the subjects. I prefer to take my own photographs and use this as an opportunity to get to know the subjects. Photographs may be provided by the client or taken by the artist. A contract is signed at this time. The contract requires a 40% deposit.
Next, an appointment is scheduled to review proofs and mutually agree upon the pose to use for the portrait.
Finally, when the portrait is completed, arrangements are made for the delivery of the completed portrait. The balance of the commission is collected at the time of delivery.
All portraits are priced after the individual requirements for the portrait are discussed. Modifications on portrait size and subject configuration are available. These prices are for a single child or adult. Each additional child or adult is 50% more. Animals are 25% more. Discounts apply for multiple figures in the same portrait. A group is comprised of four or more individuals. Contact Richard for group prices. Prices do not include taxes, framing, or shipping. Additional fees may apply for the artist's travel and lodging. I usually ask one third as a retainer to reserve your spot on the waiting list and secure the rate at the time of retainer. These will be determined prior to the consultation and will be due along with the consultation fee. Please contact Richard for further information on pricing or procedure. 252.314.2942
